Gladys Knight and Bruce Springsteen recently received the National Medal of Arts from President Joe Biden on Tuesday, March 21st, marking the highest honor that is given to artists by the United States government.
Alongside Springsteen and Knight Jose Feliciano, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mindy Kaling, Judith Francisca Baca, Fred Eychaner, the Billy Holiday Theatre, and Antonio Martorell Cardona.They were all originally supposed to receive their honors in 2021, however, the ceremony was canceled due to COVID-19. First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were also in attendance for the event.
Biden stated during the ceremony that, “We’re a nation, a great nation, in large part because of the power of the arts and humanities. That’s stamped into the DNA of America, Today … (we) continue the legacy of awarding two of our nation’s highest honors to 23 extraordinary Americans.”
