In February, first grader Adelyn Spicer and her mom, Ashley Spicer made a ten hour trip to Baton Rouge from Springfield, Missouri in order to watch the LSU WOmen’s basketball team play.
Ashley said that Adelyn wrote her role model Angel Reese a note and he mother posted it to Twitter, where it went viral. Quickly, ESPN and SEC noticed the photo of Adelyn processing her love for LSU’s Angel Reese.
Ashley stated that, “When we left the game, Angel messaged me and said she would like to meet us, As a single mom, I knew how much this was going to mean to her. I was trying not to scream.”
Adelyn said of the experience, “It was awesome, I want to play basketball. I’m going to play like she does. She’s even taller than my papa, and my papa is taller than my whole family.”
The mom and daughter pair watch every game and during the March 19th game against Michigan, Adelyn saw her role model get hurt and return to the game later on.
Reese stated that she takes time with the younger generation due to knowing the impact that it has.When Reese was seven or eight she met her own role model, taking a photo with LSU women’s basketball legend Seimone Augustus.
Resse said, “I remember the moment of meeting Seimone, Now look at me. I’m playing at her school and trying to do the things that she did.” While adding that these days she promotes a variety of brands including taxes, backpacks, chicken wings, hamburgers, underwear, athletic wear, and more.
She concluded in saying, “I also dance. I do TikToks. I talk trash sometimes. I have my nails, lashes and hair done, I want to be an inspiration to girls who don’t think they can do it. Just because you’re a girl doesn’t mean you can’t play ball. So, be who you are.”
