Lynyrd Skynyrd HAs First Performance Since the Passing of Guitarist Gary Rossington

Lynyrd Skynyrd recently made a return to the stage on Sunday for the first time since the death of founding guitarist Gary Rossington. Rossington was the last surviving original member of the rock band, and passed away earlier this month after spending the last few years dealing with a series of health issues.

During their performance of “Tuesday’s Gone,” videos and pictures of Rossington were shown behind the band. Singer Johnny Van Zandt paid tribute to Rossington saying, “Damon Johnson playing it pretty for Mr. Gary Rossington, up in rock ‘n’ roll heaven.” “Gary Rossington 1951-2023: Your Legacy Lives on Forever” appeared on screen as the song concluded.

The band also wrote via Facebook, “We felt you there with us last night, Gary, Looking down from Rock N’ Roll Heaven and helping us get through one of the toughest shows of our lives. We felt you during the nuances of ‘Free Bird,’ ‘Tuesday’s Gone,’ ‘Saturday Night Special.’ We felt you in the roar of the crowd as they cheered your name and stood up for most of the night. And we will forever feel you on any stage and in our hearts as Skynyrd’s music continues to move billions of people across the world. We love you brother.”

Meanwhile, Lynyrd Skynyrd is set for performances in the coming months prior to joining ZZ Top for the Sharp Dress Simple Man tour, that starts on July 21st in West Palm Beach, Florida.
