KATSEYE Leader Sophia Laforteza Steps Back to Focus on Mental Health

KATSEYE leader Sophia Laforteza is taking a temporary break from promotional activities as she puts her mental health and wellness first during one of the busiest stretches of the global pop group’s career.

HYBE x Geffen announced that Sophia will step away after consultations with medical professionals, who recommended an extended period of rest and ongoing care. Her progress is expected to be reassessed in September.

The decision temporarily removes one of KATSEYE’s most recognizable members from the group’s promotional schedule at a particularly significant moment. KATSEYE is preparing to release its third EP, “WILD,” on August 14, while the group’s WILDWORLD TOUR is scheduled to launch September 1 in Dublin.

Sophia also addressed fans about the decision, acknowledging how difficult it is for her to miss performances and other activities. She explained that taking care of herself now is important to her ability to continue performing in the future.

For KATSEYE, the announcement means another adjustment to an already eventful year.

Sophia is the second member of the six-member group to take a temporary hiatus in 2026. Manon Bannerman stepped away from group activities in February to concentrate on her health and well-being.

KATSEYE emerged from “The Debut: Dream Academy,” the competition project developed through HYBE and Geffen Records. Since then, the multinational group has rapidly expanded its profile, combining the intensive development model associated with K-pop with an international pop approach.

That momentum has made 2026 an important year for the group, with new music, major performances and an international arena tour forming part of an increasingly demanding schedule.

For now, KATSEYE’s activities will continue without Sophia while she focuses on recovery. With her condition scheduled to be reassessed in September, the timetable for her return remains dependent on her health rather than the group’s promotional calendar.
