“Choosin’ Texas” Gives Ella Langley One of the Longest No. 1 Runs Ever

Ella Langley’s breakthrough run with “Choosin’ Texas” has reached another historic milestone, with the country star’s signature hit securing a 17th non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

That achievement puts Langley in rare company. “Choosin’ Texas” has now surpassed the 16-week reign achieved by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men with “One Sweet Day,” a song that once held the Hot 100 longevity record for more than two decades.

With 17 weeks at the summit, Langley’s hit now stands as the fourth-longest-running No. 1 in Hot 100 history.

There are still some formidable records in front of her. Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” each accumulated 19 weeks at No. 1, while Carey’s holiday perennial “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has collected 22 total weeks in the top position.

The latest numbers suggest “Choosin’ Texas” still has plenty of fuel. Although streaming slipped slightly during the most recent tracking period, the song gained ground elsewhere, with radio audience impressions climbing 4 percent and digital sales jumping 9 percent.

Its performance on the country charts has been even more sustained. The track has now spent 35 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, giving it the third-longest reign in the chart’s history.

The song did not arrive as an instant Hot 100 champion. Released in October, “Choosin’ Texas” entered the chart at No. 39 and spent the following months building momentum before finally reaching No. 1 in February.

Miranda Lambert helped shape the record as a co-writer and producer, connecting one of country music’s established stars with an artist whose career has quickly moved into a considerably bigger spotlight.

Langley’s rise has not been limited to a single chart hit. She won five trophies at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May, where “Choosin’ Texas” was named song of the year.

Social media has provided another boost. The track has appeared in more than 1.3 million TikTok posts, while Langley’s following on the platform has climbed to nearly 5 million.

And she is proving that her chart presence goes beyond one blockbuster. Langley has three records inside this week’s Hot 100 top 10, with her Morgan Wallen collaboration “I Can’t Love You Any More” sitting at No. 7 and “Be Her” at No. 10.

The timing could hardly be better for a new country superstar. The genre is enjoying an extraordinary period of mainstream chart strength, recently becoming responsible for all five of the Hot 100’s top five songs in the same week.

For Langley, the immediate question is now how much longer “Choosin’ Texas” can keep choosing the top spot. Two more weeks would bring it alongside a pair of 19-week giants, while the all-time record remains five weeks away.
