Jeremy Scott is Leaving Moschino

Jeremy Scott is stepping down from his role as creative director at Moschino, after a near 10-year run at the Italian fashion house. “These past 10 years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination,” the designer said, in a statement. “I am so proud of the legacy I am leaving behind.”

According to Fashionista, Scott brought a playful sensibility to Moschino, and was known for his love of kitsch and his themed collections that made the brand’s collections go viral. He showed trash bags as handbags, and incorporated notes from consumer culture into ready-to-wear. He also got a lot of attention for his collaborations with global brands like Barbie, McDonalds and H&M.

In his statement, Scott thanked Aeffe S.p.A. Chairman Massimo Ferretti and his fans for supporting him throughout the last decade.

“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with the creative force that is Jeremy Scott. I would like to thank him for his ten years of commitment to Franco Moschino’s legacy House and for ushering in a distinct and joyful vision that will forever be a part of Moschino history,” Ferretti said, in a press release.

Hailing from the Midwest, Scott studied at the Pratt Institute and started his fashion career as a sort of outsider, which informed his unique perspective and his love of merging pop culture with garments.

Moschino isn’t his only design outlet: Scott launched his namesake label in 1997, which, though beloved, has been quiet in recent seasons, fueling speculation that he might return to it now.
