According to billboard.com, on September 27th, in L.A. a sold out crowd at the Kia Forum saw a star studded rock show featuring Rush, Queen, P!nk, Nancy Wilson of Heart, Miley Cyrus, Def Leppard and of course the Foo Fighters and others. Even comedian Dave Chapelle sang. The six hour long show was an occasion meant to honor Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters’ drummer who suddenly passed away on March 25th, in Bogotá, Colombia while in town for a Foo Fighters show, at the age of 50 years old.
Hawkins was one of the most respected and loved drummers in music who helped to bridge a gap between the generation of classic rock and modern acts. His death resulted in a pair of tribute shows with the first occurring earlier on this month in London and the second happening on September 27th, in Los Angeles.
Many of Hawkins’ favorite bands performed in L.A. with several big names showing up in honor of Hawkins to play Foo Fighters’ greatest hits and deep cuts. The full list of names that showed up for the performance included: Chevy Metal, The Coattail Riders, Kesha, Greg Kurstin, Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, The Darkness, John Paul Jones, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Miley Cyrus, Nancy Wilson of Heart, P!nk, The James Gang, Queens Of The Stone Age, Elliot Easton of The Cars, Steward Copeland of The Police, Sebastian Bach, Geezer Butler of Black Sabbath, Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Krist Novoselic, Taylor Momsen singing with Soundgarden, Wolfgang Van Halen, Rush, Queen and The Foo Fighters.
