Five Country Music Superstars Who Have Never Won CMA Entertainer of the Year

Country music has produced some of the most influential female performers in entertainment, but even extraordinary careers do not always translate into the genre’s highest recognition.

The Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year award remains an elusive achievement for several of Nashville’s biggest stars. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Martina McBride and Kacey Musgraves have all enjoyed considerable success without ever claiming the prestigious honor.

Miranda Lambert stands among the most decorated female artists in CMA history. With 14 wins from 70 nominations, her achievements reflect years of recognition from the country music industry. However, her six nominations for Entertainer of the Year have yet to produce a victory.

Carrie Underwood has experienced a similar situation. Since rising to fame through American Idol, she has established herself as one of country music’s most recognizable performers. Her CMA record includes seven wins from 40 nominations, but she has gone without a victory in the Entertainer of the Year category despite six nominations.

Faith Hill, whose career helped bring country music to a wider audience, has also missed out on the award. She has accumulated three CMA victories from 22 nominations and received one nomination for Entertainer of the Year.

For Martina McBride, the distinction is even more striking. Although she has collected five CMA awards from 30 nominations, she has never received an Entertainer of the Year nomination. Her absence from the category stands out given her longstanding presence in country music.

Kacey Musgraves completes the group of five. Known for her distinctive musical approach, Musgraves has secured seven CMA victories from 27 nominations. Nevertheless, she has never been nominated for the association’s highest individual award.

The numbers illustrate how selective the category has been for female performers. Throughout CMA history, only 10 women have received the Entertainer of the Year honor.

Among those who have reached that milestone are Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and Taylor Swift. More recently, Lainey Wilson joined their ranks with victories in 2023 and 2025, establishing herself as one of the few women to win the award multiple times.

Attention now turns to the 2026 CMA Awards, scheduled for November 18 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Wilson will serve as host as the industry gathers to recognize another year of country music achievements.

For Lambert, Underwood, Hill, McBride and Musgraves, the absence of an Entertainer of the Year trophy does not erase their accomplishments. Their careers demonstrate that an artist’s influence and recognition can extend far beyond a single awards category.

As country music continues to evolve, their records also highlight an enduring question about how the industry’s highest honors reflect the contributions of its female stars.
