Slaughter to Prevail vocalist Alex Terrible has put his own heavy stamp on a nu-metal classic, releasing a complete vocal cover of Korn’s “Freak on a Leash.”
The song, originally released as part of Korn’s 1998 album “Follow the Leader,” became one of the defining tracks of the band’s career and remains instantly recognizable decades later. Terrible’s version approaches that familiar material from a different corner of the heavy-music spectrum, applying the aggressive vocal style that has become central to Slaughter to Prevail’s sound.
The full performance follows a preview Terrible shared in July. That early taste attracted attention beyond his own fan base, including a positive reaction from Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch.
For Terrible, tackling the song creates a natural bridge between two generations of heavy music. Korn helped push nu metal into the mainstream during the late 1990s, while Slaughter to Prevail has built its reputation within the modern deathcore scene. The result puts a contemporary extreme-metal vocal approach against a song already known for its rhythmic aggression and unconventional vocal moments.
The timing also comes as Slaughter to Prevail prepares for another stretch on the road. The band’s 2026 North American tour is scheduled to begin September 10 in Houston, followed by stops including Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix, Anaheim, Las Vegas and San Diego.
Additional appearances are scheduled through November, including dates in Canada, before the group heads to South America in December for performances in Santiago, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Bogotá.
The upcoming tour has not been without controversy. The inclusion of Rev3rent as an opener prompted criticism from some fans online and renewed discussion surrounding previous allegations and controversies associated with Slaughter to Prevail.
Against that backdrop, Terrible’s Korn cover puts the attention squarely back on the music, pairing one of modern deathcore’s most recognizable voices with one of nu metal’s most enduring songs.
