Alex Consani added another groundbreaking milestone to her fast-rising career Monday night, becoming the first transgender woman to serve on the Met Gala host committee during fashion’s biggest event of the year.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the 2026 Met Gala embraced the theme “Fashion Is Art,” drawing celebrities, designers, athletes, and musicians into one of the industry’s most closely watched nights. While the red carpet was packed with headline-making looks, Consani’s presence carried a deeper cultural significance beyond couture and cameras.
The 22-year-old model arrived in a theatrical custom Gucci ensemble that transformed dramatically throughout the evening. Inspired by classical Botticelli imagery and the symbolism of metamorphosis, the outfit shifted from an ethereal white silhouette into a darker feathered statement piece that mirrored a “white swan to black swan” transformation. The performance-style reveal instantly became one of the night’s most talked-about fashion moments.
But the spotlight on Consani extended well beyond style. Her role on the host committee marked a historic first for the Met Gala and another major breakthrough in an industry that has gradually expanded its representation of transgender talent over the past decade.

Her rise accelerated in 2024 when she became the first transgender recipient of the Fashion Awards’ prestigious Model of the Year honor in London. That same year, she and Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio became the first openly transgender women to walk in the revived Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
