Eminem continues to keep his fans on their toes with the release of another limited-edition digital album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), on Wednesday, July 17. This special release revisits Eminem’s roots by reconnecting with Steve Berman, a recurring character from past albums, who appears in a new skit added to this version of the album.
Berman, Interscope Records’ vice chairman, first joined Slim Shady on a skit named after him on 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP. He made subsequent appearances on D-12’s Devil’s Night and 2002’s The Eminem Show, where Eminem humorously “shoots” him. Berman reappeared on 2009’s Relapse, this time with an arm injury supposedly from the previous skit.
Now, over a decade later, Berman and Eminem are back, engaging in their familiar banter. In the album announcement skit, Berman nags the Detroit rapper about the LP, eventually convincing Eminem to include him once more. “Aren’t you supposed to be dead?” Berman jokes. “How the f–k are you gonna put out another album without me on it?” Eminem finally concedes: “All right, man, I’ll fix it.”
Eminem shared the announcement on social media, saying, “Ok, @steveberman.. I fixed it. Get the new #TheDeathOfSlimShady digital album- STEVE BERMAN Edition! Includes BOTH bonus tracks #1 and #2 + an exclusive skit w/ Steve. Avail only on shop.eminem.com until THURS. at midnight ET!”
The digital album includes two bonus tracks, “Like My S–t” and “Kyrie & Luka” featuring 2 Chainz. Fans have until Thursday night (July 18) to purchase this limited-edition release.
The Death of Slim Shady marks Eminem’s 12th LP and his first since 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By. The rapper is aiming for his 10th consecutive Billboard 200-topper, potentially unseating Taylor Swift from the No. 1 spot.
