It’s Time to Beat the Heat with a refreshingly Cool Cocktail on National Daiquiri Day

National Daiquiri Day is celebrated each year on July 19, where people across the United States fill their glasses with this delightful rum-based icy cocktail and toast!

Did you know the daiquiri was likely invented by miners of a small community in Cuba? An engineer named Jennings Cox supervised a mine in a village named Daiquiri in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. After work, Cox and his colleagues would gather at the local bar to beat the heat. One day Cox mixed Bacardi, sugar, and lime into a glass of ice. Named after the Daiquiri mines, the drink became a popular staple in Havana.

Such was the success of Cox’s drink not only did he received a generous stipend from the company, he also received a monthly gallon of Bacardi to continue supplying the refreshing drink.
