Zach Top, Ella Langley, and The Red Clay Strays Earn ACM Honors—and Signal a Shift in Country Music

The 2025 ACM Awards may not boast the prestige of their CMA or Grammy counterparts, but this year’s early “New Artist” category winners are turning heads for all the right reasons.

Zach Top, the neo-traditionalist hailed by critics and fans alike, was crowned New Male Artist of the Year during a sold-out show in North Carolina. “It means the world,” he said, thanking fans who’ve embraced his throwback sound. The honor comes as Top’s album Cold Beer & Country Music continues to climb the charts and earn critical acclaim.

Meanwhile, rising powerhouse Ella Langley accepted her New Female Artist of the Year trophy mid-performance at Rock the Country in Knoxville, sharing her emotional journey and gratitude with fans. “I’m just a real-life human being going through life like the rest of everyone else,” she said.

Finally, Alabama’s The Red Clay Strays were recognized as New Duo or Group of the Year while recording new music with producer Dave Cobb—despite insisting they’re “not a country band.” Still, their rootsy authenticity has struck a chord.

All three acts will now perform on the ACM Awards stage May 8, injecting fresh energy—and long-overdue recognition—into a genre increasingly welcoming the underdogs.
