Normally we share this information on Monday, but the Golden Globes awards and results stole the day’s thunder, so let’s see what movies did what this past weekend…(January 5, 6 and 7)
‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,’ pulled in over $36 million, shown in 3,765 theaters across the USA. The film has generated nearly $250 million since it opened 3 weeks ago.
From out of left field, the biggest weekend surprise is the film ‘Insidious: The Last Key,’ which opened this past weekend, earning over $29 million, available in just over 3,000 venues.
‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi,’ shown in 4,232 theaters, seems to be cooling off, as the film generated just under $29 million. The film has earned its investors over $575 million in four weeks play.
‘The Greatest Showman’ generated just under $14 million for the weekend, shown in over 3,000 venues. Rounding out the top 10 were the films ‘Pitch Perfect 3,’ ‘Ferdinand,’ ‘Molly’s Game’ ($7 million in its debut weekend) ‘Darkest Hour,’ ‘All the Money in the World,’ ‘Darkest Hour,’ the Golden Globe Winner ‘Coco,’ ‘The Shape of Water,’ and ‘I. Tonya.’
