Ye Takes Aim at Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole in Latest Rant, Sparks Backlash

Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, has reignited old tensions by unleashing a fresh wave of criticism targeting two of hip-hop’s most celebrated lyricists: Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole.

In a conversation alongside Toronto rapper Top5, Ye disparaged both artists, questioning their musical merit and dismissing their fanbases entirely. “I hate J. Cole,” he stated bluntly. “It can’t even be called music.” He followed with similarly sharp words for Kendrick, claiming the Compton rapper lacked the “sauce” that defines real artistry.

Ye also criticized actor Ben Affleck for naming Kendrick in his top rappers list, saying, “Anybody that say Kendrick is one of their favorite rappers, doesn’t know about real rap.”

The tirade comes amid a string of controversial appearances and outlandish comments from Ye, who recently referred to Kendrick and Tyler, the Creator as “the two most overrated so-called artists.” His remarks have been widely seen as attempts to stir controversy rather than contribute meaningful critique.

Despite Ye’s history of headline-grabbing statements, his jabs have done little to shake the legacies of Lamar and Cole—two artists who continue to be praised for their lyrical depth, cultural impact, and widespread influence.
