Would You Eat an Eclipse-themed Doughnut? Krispy Kreme and Oreo think so!

Everyone is getting in on solar eclipse mania. There are special beers and foods available along the path of totality, for one thing. Many brands are also offering fantastic snacking options, including a very special doughnut collaboration between Krispy Kreme and Oreo.

As Food & Wine reports, on Tuesday, the two brands announced a limited-edition treat that will only be available around the eclipse. And it’s aptly named the “Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut.”

According to a press release, the doughnut is made with Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed Doughnut, dipped in black chocolate icing, topped with silver sprinkles and buttercream made with Oreo pieces, and the pièce de résistance, an entire Oreo cookie in the center.

“Eclipses are rare, and so is our out-of-this-world Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut,” Dave Skena, the global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, shared in a statement. “Even if you can’t be in the path of totality you can get in the path of these treats, which you will eat in totality. Stop by and get some for you and some to share so you can flex your science side and great taste at the same time.”

The Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut will be available Friday, April 5, through Monday, April 8, both in shops and available for pickup and delivery via the Krispy Kreme app and website. However, it will only be available while supplies last, and we’re sure it will sell out fast, so get there early.

As Krispy Kreme noted, this is far from its first celebration of space. The new Solar Eclipse Doughnut is actually its second eclipse doughnut, with the first one dropping during the 2017 eclipse. In 2021, it also created a limited-release Mars Doughnut to celebrate NASA’s Perseverance Rover landing, and in 2022, it created an Artemis Moon Doughnut to honor NASA’s Artemis I flight. And, way back in 1969, the brand served its Original Glazed doughnuts at the launch viewing site of NASA’s Apollo 11 Mission to the moon. So, really, you’re just getting in on all that important space history by treating yourself to a delicious treat during this year’s eclipse.
