William ‘Poogie’ Hart, Lead Singer of The Delfonics, Dead at 77

According to complex.com, William “Poogie” Hart, the lead singer of the R&B band The Delfonics, recently passed away at the age of 77 years old. TMZ reported that the singer was hospitalized in Philadelphia after having breathing troubles and later passed away on July 14th due to surgery complications. His son, Hadi confirmed the news to Rolling Stone. His son Hadi stated, “His music touched millions, continues to touch millions, His body might not be here, but his music will live forever. He was a great man, he loved his family, he loved God, and he just loved people. Great heart, great spirit. That was my dad.” The group starte din Philadelphia back in the 1960’s and included Randy Cain, Ritchie Daniels, and Thom Bell with Hart as the primary songwriter for the group. The group also won a Grammy for their song “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” in 1971 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group, Vocal, or Instrumental. The Delfonics parted ways back in 1975 and Wilbert Hart is the only surviving band member left today.
