Whitney Houston’s famous “I Will Always Love You” recording is now certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America, which means that the track has now sold and streamed 10 million equivalent units in the United States.
This new accomplishment is not only the singer’s fourth diamond certification, but it also makes Houston the third female artist to have both a diamond album and a single following Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift.
“I Will Always Love You,” a cover of Dolly Parton’s 1974 song, was originally recorded by Houston in 1992 as part of her film debut in The Bodyguard, in which she played a pop diva who falls in love with her hired bodyguard, played by Kevin Costner.
At Houston’s funeral in 2012, the iconic song played as her casket left the church.
