In what has to be one of the saddest stories of popular music, the rise and untimely death of Whitney Houston still reverberate through concert halls today. Whitney died in a Beverly Hills hotel room, hours before the 2012 Grammy Award broadcast, leaving the music world stunned. Now, her estate has approved of an in-depth documentary on the life and times of Whitney in an upcoming film entitled ‘Whitney’ that will pull the covers back on the real Whitney.
The documentary was filmed with an ‘all access’ pass approach, directed by legendary filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, and reveals songs that have never been heard by the public; live and studio sessions, and a front row seat to the recordings of Whitney’s greatest hits.
Miramax is licensed and has approval for a nationwide release of ‘Whitney’ in theaters in early July. There have been early documentaries of the singer, but ‘Whitney’ has the approval of her estate and management teams and will be a film to see this summer.
