Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have long been more than collaborators — according to Sheeran, their connection is rooted in something deeper and enduring. On a recent episode of the Awards Chatter podcast, Sheeran called Swift “like a sibling,” acknowledging the comfort, closeness, and ease they share even after years apart.
He recounted how their friendship began almost casually: in 2012, while opening for another band in Nashville, Sheeran offered Taylor a songwriting partnership — “if she ever wants to write a song, I’m around.” That offer blossomed quickly into a creative bond. Not long after, Sheeran opened for Taylor on her Red Tour — a period that cemented both their friendship and collaborative chemistry.
Over the years they produced hits together like Everything Has Changed, The Joker and the Queen, and Run. Their connection has survived time, distance, success, and major life milestones: Sheeran is now a father of two and Taylor is engaged. Yet when they do reconnect, Sheeran says it’s effortless. “You just kind of lock back in and reconnect,” he said — “it’s like no time has passed.”
Their closeness mirrors a comparison Taylor made years ago, likening their partnership to that of songwriting icons Carole King and James Taylor — a comparison Sheeran now embraces fully.
For Sheeran, their bond seems beyond career or fame: it’s family.
