Put simply, NikeSKIMS is a new collaboration between iconic sportswear label Nike and SKIMS, co-founded by Kim Kardashian, that offers a line of activewear, footwear, and accessories for women.
The new brand merges Nike’s world-class approach to advanced innovation, sport science and athlete insights with SKIMS’ signature style and inclusive solutions for every body, which aims to deliver “an entirely new look of training and fitness. With a shared, long-term vision that celebrates every dimension of athleticism, from the elite to the everyday, NikeSKIMS will create covetable products meticulously crafted to fit the body’s every curve, enhancing its natural form,” according to the press release.
More than a Partnership, the New Brand Will Set a New Standard
“We’re energized by the opportunity to build a new brand and shake things up for the next generation of athletes with NikeSKIMS,” says Heidi O’Neill, President of Consumer, Product and Brand, NIKE, Inc. “This partnership brings together the best of both brands and unlocks an incredible opportunity to disrupt the industry with our shared passion and commitment to innovation. We will invite even more athletes into sport and movement with product that makes them feel strong and sexy.”
More than a partnership, the new brand will set a new standard in the global fitness and activewear industry with an extensive line of training apparel, footwear and accessories. The products’ design will be both functional and flattering, meeting the unique needs and preferences of women athletes around the world and revolutionizing the way they experience sport and style.
“Over the past five years, SKIMS has redefined the intimates and casual apparel landscape, championing inclusivity and confidence,” says Jens Grede, Co-Founder and CEO, SKIMS. “Now, by partnering with Nike, the undisputed leader in athletic performance and innovation, we’re poised to create a new standard in the activewear market. This partnership will empower individuals to move with confidence and express themselves authentically, merging SKIMS’ focus on body confidence and self-expression with Nike’s relentless pursuit of athletic excellence.”
Inspired and Informed by Athletes, Sport and the Female Form – Of All Sizes
NikeSKIMS’ approach to product design is inspired and informed by athletes, sport and the female form, enabling “unsurpassed quality so women can move with confidence, from the gym to the studio to everyday life.” To that end, the brand will make its premium-quality and style-forward designs available to all women through extended sizing.
That also means more women athletes can further benefit from Nike’s distinct advantages across the marketplace, leveraging women-specific innovation from the renowned Nike Sport Research Lab, a growing membership and app ecosystem that serves millions of women around the globe, and partnerships with the world’s greatest leagues, teams, federations and voices in art and culture.
“Nike and SKIMS share a deep commitment to innovation, inclusivity and pushing boundaries, driven by an unwavering belief in the power of women,” says Kim Kardashian, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer, SKIMS. “This partnership is the culmination of that shared vision, delivering product that is meticulously designed to sculpt and perform for every body. Every single detail has been obsessed over and carefully considered. We’re incredibly excited to unveil our first collection this spring.”
Commitment to Innovation in Service of Women
NikeSKIMS builds on NIKE, Inc.’s broader dedication to growing its women’s business, inspiring women and girls around the world to dream big — and enabling them in their pursuit with industry-leading fitness apparel and footwear.
The new brand advances Nike and SKIMS’ status as disruptors and their obsession to serve women around the world, drawing on learnings from SKIMS’ rapid rise and the NIKE, Inc. history of partnership and advanced innovation. Both the new brand and NIKE, Inc.’s broader commitment to innovation in service of women reflect an unparalleled, five-decade support for women athletes, reinforcing Nike’s position as the greatest advocate for women in sport.
Endorsed by Powerhouse Female Athletes
The powerhouse collab was marked by “Bodies at Work,” a short film by Janicza Bravo, and campaign photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez and Rob Woodcox featuring more than 50 athletes, including Serena Williams, Jordan Chiles, Sha’Carri Richardson, and of course, Kim Kardashian herself. Endorsements from each of these superstars offer powerful votes of confidence.
“I’m an athlete, but I love fashion too. It’s important for me to express myself, and I love how wearing NikeSkims allows me to do that,” says Olympic gymnast champioon Jordan Chiles. She adds, “I’ve spent my life proving what my body can do rather than letting the world tell me what I should look like.”
“It feels like butter on your skin,” Serena Williams says. “I feel unstoppable when I’m training in it.” The campaign also stars Paralympic medalist Beatriz Hatz, who says NikeSkims makes her feel “powerful.” “I feel fierce knowing I can look and feel this good while working hard,” says Sha’Carri Richardson.
The First of an Ongoing Collab
The debut drop – which launched at the end of September – is specifically noted as the first, signaling an ongoing partnership between the brands. There are seven collections across the 58-item line with three core collections that will be updated over time (Matte, Shiny, and Airy) and four seasonal collections (Vintage Seamless, Matte Tricot, Weightless, and Shiny Nylon.) The pieces come in black, maroon, grey, and brown, and sizes run from 2XS through 4XL. Non-apparel items include a gym bag and a yoga mat.
The Matte collection features 21 everyday essentials that are sweat-wicking and sculpting with medium compression. Shine pieces are sleek, stretchy, and quick-drying, designed for strength training but more than capable of carrying you outside of the weight room. Airy comprises seven mesh-like knits ideal for layering. Light and breathable, these are best for low-impact activities.
