Weezer is embracing its past while having plenty of fun with it on the band’s latest single, “C.E.O.”
The new music video turns the spotlight on the music industry’s fascination with nostalgia, following a pair of overenthusiastic record executives who push frontman Rivers Cuomo to recreate the band’s iconic 1994 “Undone (The Sweater Song)” video. Instead of simply revisiting old ground, the clip becomes a tongue-in-cheek commentary on what fans, labels, and artists expect from long-running bands.
As the fictional production unravels, the real members of Weezer are replaced by an unexpected celebrity lineup. Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk joins actors Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Dax Flame, and Jay Renshaw, creating a deliberately over-the-top version of the band that leans fully into the joke.
“C.E.O.” is the third song released ahead of The Gold Album, arriving after earlier preview tracks and continuing to build anticipation for the album’s August 21 release. The single combines Weezer’s familiar power-pop sound with lyrics that acknowledge the challenge of balancing creative evolution against the expectations that come with decades of success.
Alongside the new music, the band has expanded its touring plans by adding 2027 performances in Japan, Europe, and the United Kingdom to its upcoming “Weezer: The Gathering” world tour, extending what is shaping up to be one of the group’s biggest touring cycles in years.
