In a headline-grabbing move, the Washington Commanders have agreed to a one-year deal with veteran defensive end Von Miller, aiming to add experience and bite to their pass rush. The 36-year-old Super Bowl 50 MVP confirmed the signing on Instagram, sharing photos of himself in Commanders gear. The contract is pending a physical, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Miller, who ranks 16th on the all-time sack list with 129.5, brings a decorated résumé that includes eight Pro Bowl selections and a reputation for coming up big in critical moments. Washington hopes Miller can replicate his 2021 run with the Rams, where he notched nine sacks in 12 games and helped deliver a Super Bowl victory.
The Commanders’ pass rush struggled late in games last season, managing just five fourth-quarter sacks — ranking 30th in the NFL. Miller’s addition follows several other defensive signings, including Deatrich Wise Jr. and Frankie Luvu.
Despite recent setbacks — including a 2022 ACL tear and a four-game suspension in 2024 — Miller insists he’s ready to contribute. His familiarity with GM Adam Peters, who was with Denver when Miller was drafted, may ease the transition.
For Washington, it’s a calculated gamble that experience can close games — and perhaps, playoff gaps.
