Victoria Beckham has shown she is every inch the Posh Spice Girl once again, with the launch of her very chic Chronomat Automatic 36 Victoria Beckham Collection for Breitling, limited to just 1,500 pieces and offered in either stainless steel or yellow gold.
The most eye-catching aspect of the Chronomat 36 Victoria Beckham collection is the combination of dial colors and metal choices. For Beckham, the color story is always crucial in expressing the feeling she wants to convey, and we see this attention to detail in the four unique dial shades that Breitling created exclusively for her Chronomat 36 line —inspired by her Spring 2024 collection. In addition, Beckham wanted to push the boundaries of the collection by including both stainless steel and yellow gold, marking the first yellow gold model to enter the modern Chronomat lineup in its 140-year history. Beyond that, each face will discreetly bear her initials, and an indication of the limits of each issue—One of 400 for the stainless steel versions; One of 100 for the gold.
As for the weight of the watch, Beckham says she was looking for a heft that allows it to be worn almost like a bracelet—loosely fastened, so it ever-so-slightly slides down toward the hand. “I like a watch to feel strong, yet effortless—nothing too complicated,” she says. “There’s definitely a bit of a masculine feel to the collaboration, just as there’s always a menswear feel to my collections. You want a watch to feel easy, natural—never obvious.”
She’s quick to point out that this was her first time at designing watches, with the artisan makers coming from Breitling’s La Chaux-de-Fonds ateliers to London to work with her. “I didn’t have the know-how to do this before I started working with them,” Beckham says, “and I learned so much. Breitling has always pushed boundaries with their master watchmaking.”
As Vogue reports, she may not have had the technical aspects before she started, but she has long felt the love for a good watch: She has been collecting them for years, ever since husband David bought her a vintage timepiece when she was awarded her OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2017. (She treasures that first watch—“Just as I do,” she says, “my wedding ring.”) Others have followed since—all of them functional, all deeply sentimental.
“I was very attracted by the heritage of Breitling as a brand,” Beckham says in a statement. “I like what they have stood for as a brand for over a century. That’s always been very important to me when I’m investing in a watch for my own collection—I want a watch that I’m going to wear for many years and then pass down to my children.”
The Chronomat 36 Victoria Beckham collection is available in both stainless steel and yellow gold, and each model in the collection comes equipped with Breitling’s COSC-certified, self-winding Caliber 10 movement. The stainless steel iterations start at $5,600 and go up to $5,950 for the dove gray dial featuring lab-grown diamond hour markers and are available in a limited run of just 400 pieces each. Alternatively, the yellow gold versions are priced at $29,500 and limited to just 100 pieces each.
