Usher in the Month of March with Moscow Mule Day!

Just about everything seems to have a national day- ice cream, popcorn, margaritas- you name it. But up until 2017, the Moscow Mule wasn’t one of them. Invented over 80 years ago in 1941 by Smirnoff (yup, the Smirnoff with the Vodka), the Moscow Mule has made a huge comeback in recent years.

To celebrate the cocktail’s resurgence, Smirnoff vodka dubbed March 3rd as the first official National Moscow Mule Day just six years ago. Now everybody has the chance to raise a copper mug and toast this delicious drink!  Why March 3?  Well, the 3/3 date was chosen for a specific reason. Three people were involved in the cocktail’s creation, three ingredients are used in the Original Mule and when turned counterclockwise the numbers became an M-M.

Some other fun facts about the Mule:

The original cocktail combined 1.5 oz Smirnoff (duh) vodka, 4 oz of ginger beer and a lime wedge.

The famous copper mugs were actually a part of the original Moscow Mule recipe.

It was because of the Mule that Smirnoff Vodka became a household name.

Moscow Mule was a cocktail with its own jingle!

So on March 3rd, go out (or make one at home) and have yourself a Moscow Mule in a frosty copper cup!
