Beatles fans are about to hear something no one knew existed.
A previously unheard John Lennon demo titled “Little Girl” will make its official debut as part of the forthcoming deluxe edition of Rubber Soul, adding an unexpected chapter to one of the band’s most celebrated albums.
Producer Giles Martin says the recording arrived as a genuine surprise during work on the archive project. The unfinished demo surfaced through the Lennon estate and had never been documented, bootlegged, or widely rumored among Beatles collectors.
Martin describes the recording as a rough songwriting sketch featuring incomplete lyrics, but says its melody hints at ideas that would later evolve into “I’m Only Sleeping.” The demo provides a rare look inside Lennon’s creative process before a song reached its finished studio form.
The discovery is expected to be one of the biggest attractions of the expanded Rubber Soul release, which will also feature new stereo mixes, alternate takes, and additional archival material from the sessions that helped redefine The Beatles’ sound in the mid-1960s.
For longtime fans and music historians alike, “Little Girl” represents more than another vault recording. It is a newly uncovered piece of Beatles history that sheds fresh light on John Lennon’s songwriting during one of the band’s most influential creative periods.
