Over the weekend, the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-1. Despite the stadium being empty, the Cubs had no problem dominating the game on their turf. After the success left-handed hitters displayed against him last season, Cubs pitcher Tyler Chatwood changed the grip on his cut fastball to the way he used to throw his slider.
Chatwood walked two Sunday in an 84-pitch effort in hot, windy conditions more conducive for hitters. He preserved much of the bullpen entering a four-game series against a daunting Reds lineup.
βHeβs going to be great this year,β said Willson Contreras, who caught Chatwood in 2018 when he walked an NL-high 95 batters in 103β innings. He was relegated to bullpen duty for nearly all of 2019.
