In a bizarre twist following the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final, former President Donald Trump claims the tournament’s original trophy now lives in the Oval Office—leaving champions Chelsea with a replica.
Trump, speaking to DAZN before Chelsea’s win over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium, revealed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino gifted him the actual trophy during a March visit to the White House. “They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’… And then I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’ He says, ‘We’re never going to pick it up. You can have it forever,’” Trump said.
According to Trump, FIFA commissioned a new version for the match itself, leading Chelsea captain Reece James to unknowingly hoist a replica. “I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay,” James said after the match, referring to Trump’s extended on-stage presence during the post-game celebrations.
The moment sparked confusion and social media chatter, especially as Trump joked about signing an executive order to rename soccer as “football” in the U.S.
Meanwhile, FIFA has opened a new office inside Trump Tower in New York, adding yet another layer of intrigue to the unconventional trophy saga.
