According to usnews.com, the Philadelphia Flyers top goaltending prospect, Ivan Fedotov, was recently picked up by law enforcement in Russia just last week. This comes ahead of a planned move to the U.S. for the goaltender. According to the players agent, Ivan Fedotov is now located at a remote military base in northern Russia. The recent situation comes as concerns are raise don whether or not Russian players will be willing or able to join the National Hockey League teams that end up drafting them this week as the war carries on in Ukraine. The 25 year old is currently considered to be one of the top goaltenders in the world outside of the NHL. The young goaltender won a silver medal as Russia’s starting goalie in the Beijing Olympics back in February and also led CSKA Moscow all the way to the Gagarin Cup as a KHL champion. Local news reported that the young goaltender was evading compulsory military service required of all Russian men. The Russian government has yet to comment, however, a Russian news agency has recently reported that Fedotov was taken to a military hospital with stress-induced gastritis, with friends and family unable to visit him. So far the NHL and the Flyers are both aware and investigating what can be done about the situation.
