At their inaugural ‘Live in the Sand’ festival in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Tool encountered unexpected criticism from fans due to similar setlists over two consecutive nights.
The event, held on March 7 and 8, 2025, featured performances by Tool, Primus, Mastodon, and others. Tool headlined both nights, promising “two unique sets” to attendees.
While the first night’s performance was well-received, the second night saw Tool repeating four songs: “Fear Inoculum,” “Rosetta Stoned,” “Pneuma,” and “Jambi.” This repetition led to dissatisfaction among fans who had anticipated entirely distinct setlists each night.
Disappointed attendees expressed their frustration both online and during the event. Some resorted to booing and displaying obscene gestures during the second night’s performance. One attendee remarked, “As much as I love and have supported this band… I’m super disappointed… Shame on you, Tool.”
The backlash at ‘Live in the Sand’ underscores the importance of meeting fan expectations, especially when premium experiences are marketed. As Tool continues their tour, addressing these concerns may be crucial to maintaining their dedicated fan base.
