More than two decades after his last solo studio album, Tony Iommi is stepping back into the spotlight with a new collection of original music. The Black Sabbath guitarist has announced *From the Dark*, his first solo album in 21 years, with a worldwide release scheduled for October 23.
The album arrives with the debut of its first single, “World Alone,” giving fans an early taste of the legendary guitarist’s latest work. Longtime hard rock and metal vocalist Jørn Lande handles lead vocals throughout the record after collaborating closely with Iommi during the songwriting process. The project was also co-produced by Mike Exeter, who has worked extensively with Iommi over the years.
Among the album’s highlights is a guest appearance from Queen guitarist Brian May, who contributes a featured guitar solo on the song “Death Wake.” The collaboration adds another celebrated name to a record that blends veteran musicianship with fresh creative energy.
The release marks Iommi’s first proper solo studio album since *Fused* in 2005. Despite the lengthy gap, the guitarist says the new record was driven by the simple joy of creating music rather than any desire to meet expectations or make a statement.
The announcement comes during an emotional period for heavy metal fans. While promoting the album, Iommi spoke candidly about the passing of longtime Black Sabbath bandmate Ozzy Osbourne, admitting that the loss still feels difficult to accept because Osbourne remains such a constant presence through videos and media.
With *From the Dark*, Iommi once again returns to the role that helped define heavy metal, delivering new material that celebrates both his enduring creativity and his lasting influence on rock music.
