According to ultimateclassicrock.com, a box set that comes from a series of shows from Tom Petty is set for release in November. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Live at the Fillmore (1997) is going to be released on November 25th. It will include recordings from the band’s 20 concert residency at the Fillmore in San Francisco from January, 10th through February, 7th, 1997. Ultimately, six of the twenty shows were recorded.
Back in August Campbell stated that, “It’s a very magical record, because it’s the Heartbreakers not doing their hits and just having fun and playing at that venue, which is really spiritual, and changing the set every night. You can feel that kinetic energy in the band. We’re really just letting our guard down and having fun and playing some really great music.”
Live at the Fillmore is Petty’s first concert release in 13 year and comes in basic two-CD and three-LP sets that include 33 tracks, with 18 of them being covers. There will also be four-CD and six-LP deluxe versions that include 58 tracks (35 covers), and a six-LP Deluxe Package sold on Petty’s website that comes with a handmade, custom-sized cymbal road case, with extras such as an All Access laminate, a reprint of the eight-page fan club newsletter from 1997, an embroidered patch, a replica baseball hat and other memorabilia.
Petty and his band the Dirty Knobs are returning to the Fillmore to perform on October 25th, between dates opening up for the Who. Campbell stated that, “I haven’t thought about the set list at the Fillmore yet, I always do an homage to the Heartbreakers in the Dirty Knobs shows. I’ll do two or three, sometimes four songs because I love doing them and the Knobs do them really well, and they’re songs I co-wrote so I enjoy getting to sing them myself. We’ll certainly acknowledge that I’ve played [the Fillmore] before, many times, including those shows in ’97.”
