Tom Morello Gears Up for First True Solo Rock Album, Featuring Son Roman on Guitar

Tom Morello is set to chart a new chapter in his storied career: he’s working on his first “pure” solo rock album, one that returns to the heavy guitar roots of his Rage Against the Machine era, and he’s bringing his teenage son Roman into the mix. Unlike his recent Atlas Underground projects, which leaned heavily on collaborations and electronic elements, this new record aims to be “relentless in its big guitar riffs” and inventive solos.

Morello says he wants it to carry the DNA of his rock legacy while also embracing Roman’s ideas and energy. Roman, already praised by his father as a “tremendous guitar player,” will be more than a guest: he is being woven into the creative fabric of the record.

Meanwhile, Morello is also moving into a more vocal role — stepping out from behind the purely instrumental frame to front the music in his own voice. The album is expected in 2026, and Morello is planning U.S. touring to accompany its release. For fans, this feels like a bridge — uniting Morello’s activist roots, rock ferocity, and family legacy into one bold statement.
