According to billboard.com, Tina Turner is the latest musical icon to have a Barbie Doll made after her. Mattel recently released the Tina Turner Barbie doll on Thursday, October 13th as the latest edition to their Barbie Signature Music Series.
Turner made a statement where she said that, “I am honored to welcome my Barbie into the group of trailblazing women already represented and introduce more kids to my journey.” The doll is priced at $55 and was released in honor of the icon’s smash hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” which is close to it’s 40th anniversary. The doll recreates her iconic outfit from the music video, with a black mini dress, cropped denim jacket, fishnet stockings and black heels. The collectible is available at Amazon, Walmart, Target and MattelCreations.com.
“What’s love Got to Do with It” was originally released in 1984 and gave Turner her first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming the biggest track from her fifth studio album, private Dancer. The song also managed to top the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks and won three Grammys, record of the year, song of the year, and best female pop vocal performance. The track was also entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Other artists already included in the Barbie Signature Music Series include, Gloria Estefan, David Bowie and Elvis Presley.
