The college football season is oh so close and everyone keeps talking about the usual suspects: Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida State and Oklahoma among others. What about the rest of the competition though? Today let’s take a look at three teams who could compete for the national championship that you haven’t heard talked about…
Let’s start it all off with the Auburn Tigers of the SEC. They’re certainly not being hated on, but there seems to be some serious questions about their team. Many question their quarterback situation, but with transfer Jarrett Stidham under center they should have an explosive offense that will not only run, but throw the heck out of it in 2017.
Virginia Tech comes into the season a top 25 team, but much like Auburn has questions at the quarterback position. They honestly have a lot of questions across the board on offense, but their head coach is an offensive genius and their defense is very good. The Hokies’ schedule is pretty weak, but packs enough punch (West Virginia, Clemson and Miami) to push them into the playoff if they can win the ACC with just one loss.
Going with a super crazy pick for our final selection and it’s Middle Tennessee State. Who?! Yes, the Blue Raiders are a team from the Conference USA, but they play Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Syracuse to start their season off. Win those three games, which they can do with their stellar QB/WR combo of Brent Stockstill and Richie James, and they can give themselves a shot at a playoff bid by running the rest of the table.
