Thomas Rhett is used to loud crowds, roaring amplifiers, and packed arenas. What he is still adjusting to is the volume of everyday life.

The 35-year-old country star recently shared that he is experiencing partial hearing loss in one ear and has begun using hearing aids. Speaking on a podcast appearance with his wife Lauren Akins, Rhett explained that trying the devices for the first time was eye-opening. Ordinary background noise suddenly felt amplified, making it difficult for him to concentrate. After about a week, he found himself toggling through noise settings on his phone and eventually removing the aids just to return to what he now considers normal.

For Akins, the adjustment period prompted a playful reality check. The sounds that overwhelmed Rhett are simply part of daily life in their bustling household. The couple, who are expecting their fifth child, manage their home without a nanny, assistant, or regular babysitter. With four daughters already filling the house with activity, the noise level is rarely low.

Rhett joked that the chaos occasionally makes him eager to get back on the road. Touring, in comparison, can feel like a break. He even quipped that he would happily book just about any gig for a few days away, underscoring the humor he brings to the balancing act between stardom and fatherhood.

Still, the singer was quick to shift to a more heartfelt tone when discussing the baby on the way. He described the pregnancy as a miracle and a gift, even as he admitted that life has been moving so quickly he has not fully processed the milestone. The couple plans to keep one element a surprise, choosing not to learn the baby’s sex until delivery day. In an era when most details are revealed early, Rhett has said he values the rarity of a true surprise.

As for whether baby number five will be their last, Rhett has hinted that it just might be. He has long considered five children to be the magic number, joking that any more would require upgrading to a larger vehicle.

Between growing his family, navigating hearing changes, and maintaining a thriving music career, Rhett is embracing a season of adjustment. The volume may be higher than ever, but for the country hitmaker, it is all part of the soundtrack of life.
