This Day in Music History – May 18th

1911 – Gustav Mahler died. His last word was “Mozart.” He had conducted his last concert on February 21.

1963 – The Beatles began their third U.K. tour in Slough, England. They started the tour second on the bill after Roy Orbinson. They were soon moved to the number one spot.

1968 – Tiny Tim’s “Tiptoe through the Tulips” was released. It was originally a number one hit for Nick Lucas in 1929.

1978 – “The Buddy Holly Story” had its world premiere in Dallas, TX.

1992 – Sister Souljah was quoted by the Washington Post as saying “If black people kill black people ever day, why not have a week and kill white people.”

1993 – KISS released the album “Alive III.”
