The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Becomes First Song in Spotify History to Reach 5 Billion Streams

“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd has just rewritten streaming history—becoming the first song ever to hit 5 billion streams on Spotify. The milestone was confirmed by Spotify on August 31, 2025, sparking widespread celebration across social media. The Weeknd reposted the announcement on his Instagram Story just before his Houston concert, part of his ongoing After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour.

The song’s legacy is nothing short of iconic. Released in 2019 as part of the After Hours album, it dominated charts—spending four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining in the top 10 for a full year, a record-setting feat. Prior to this, it made Spotify history by becoming the first track to reach four billion streams in early 2024.

“Blinding Lights” is also one of 28 songs by The Weeknd in Spotify’s “Billions Club,” the most of any artist, showcasing his sweeping impact in the streaming era.

With its nostalgic synth-pop energy and massive replay value, “Blinding Lights” continues to shine brighter than ever—proving that some songs transcend the moment and become timeless anthems.
