Bert McCracken, best known as the frontman for The Used, is stepping out on his own with a new solo project under the moniker robbietheused. McCracken recently announced his debut solo album, set to drop on October 25, 2024, followed by a brief five-city US tour.
A New Chapter: McCracken’s Solo Debut
McCracken’s self-titled album robbietheused will feature 12 tracks, and fans have already gotten a taste of what’s to come with the release of two singles, “Terrible” and “The Feels,” which bookend the album as the opening and closing tracks. The project is McCracken’s chance to explore a different side of his artistry, bringing a more personal and reflective tone to his music.
“Any feeling is valid — and to be able to put it to song is incredible,” McCracken shared in a press release. “There’s so much room in this world for positivity. I want this music to show that there’s room for love. There’s room for growth. There’s room for redemption. There are so many good people — and so many good things happening.”
The album was produced by McCracken’s longtime collaborator, John Feldmann, who has also produced records for The Used. The two have a well-established creative chemistry, which made the recording process for robbietheused feel effortless. “John Feldmann is a wizard,” McCracken said. “He’s the hardest working man I know in the music industry. It was a smooth process — just like making a Used record.”
Therapy Through Music
The recording sessions were intense, with McCracken and Feldmann working out of the studio for week-long stretches, creating one song each day. McCracken described the process as therapeutic, saying the songs were formulated based on daily conversations about his mental health and emotional state.
“In the morning, we’d talk about how we’re feeling and what’s on our minds that day,” McCracken explained. “It was almost like a therapy session, where I’d really get to talk about anything that’s on my mind, and then make a song about it.”
