The 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was recently announced, begging us to consider those still not in the hall. Hear us out…
How is it Jethro Tull is not yet in the Hall? His “Thick as a Brick” and “Locomotive Breath” works of art, length of service, and bravery of convincing other rockers to come on stage to perform while you’re holding a flute is tremendously brave, and reasons alone to be in the hall.
The Monkees belong in the Hall! Imagine a group of early 20s kids answering an ad in Variety seeking actors/musicians to be in a new show about a band! Now add in that they eventually learned to perform their own music, had tons of hits on the charts, changing the way music was viewed on TV.
Wham! was surely a bubblegum pop mess of talent in the mid-80s that moved music from ballad to pop. Top 40 radio stations couldn’t get enough of their music at a time of music transition. The late George Michael and Andrew Ridgely stormed onto the charts selling over 30 million records.
