Shelley Duvall of “The Shining” has returned after being out of Hollywood for two decades. In an interview with People Magazine, Duvall opened up about her return in the upcoming horror film, “The Forest Hills.”
Duvall said in the interview, “Acting again — it’s so much fun. It enriches your life, Jessica Tandy “won an Oscar when she was 80. I can still win.”
The actress last appeared in the 2002 independent film “Manna from Heaven.” During the interview, she spoke about how she was truly drawn into acting, stating, “After ‘Thieves Like Us,’ Robert [Altman] looked at me and said, ‘I knew you were good, but I didn’t know you were great,’ It’s the reason I stuck with it and became an actress.”
Duvall also spoke about how in the ’70s and ’80s it wasn’t an easy thing to make a living acting in Hollywood. She explained, “You didn’t get paid much — just scale plus 10%. They thought women would just marry and the husband’s would support them. But that doesn’t happen for everybody,”
After Duvall retired in 2002, she moved back to her home state of Texas and primarily kept out of the public eye. After her brother’s cancer diagnosis she decided she needed to focus on her family for a while. However, now she is back with “The Forest Hills” that is set to premiere on March 11th at a theater in New Jersey that is owned by Kevin Smith.
