When you hear the names MM6 Maison Margiela and Salomon in the same sentence, it’s hard not to get excited. The two have already delivered such great collaborations, from those thigh-high Salomons to laceless steppers that are now bad gal-approved.
With a focus on streetwear and a genderless approach to their line, MM6 Maison Margiela is known for its legendary collaborations of yore. They have previously joined forces with the likes of Supreme to reveal a two-fold Spring 2024 Collection. Their favorite co-conspirator, however, has always been Salomon. The shoewear brand has crossed paths with Margiela many times in the past to center their collective ethos of functional design and hybrid-wear. Previous drops have included the Cross Wader trainer and the ADV Skin 5 hydration vest. As we reported in the past, the two offer a reimagined take on the performance-oriented design.
On past collaborations, the MM6 Maison Margiela design team explained in a statement, “Our motivation was to create a shoe that could easily transition between cityscapes and the great outdoors — a single product that both maintained Salomon’s high-performance specifications and also resonated with MM6 Maison Margiela’s contemporary aesthetic. The core idea was the same as it always is for us. Our goal was to push Salomon’s performance-driven designs to such an extreme that they seamlessly integrated into the MM6 Maison Margiela wardrobe.”
Now the footwear goodness only continues as the two advance their relationship with a collaborative Salomon sneaker-mule, an XT-4 mule, to be exact. From the front, MM6 Maison Margiela’s Salomons look like ordinary Salomon XT-4 sneakers adorned with Margiela’s undeniable numbers, of course.
The shoe first appeared in Margiela’s 2024 Resort lookbook, featuring two colorful colorways complete with a mix of beige, teal, brown, blue and yellow. Decorated in the usual concoction of show-stopping colors we’ve come to expect from the outdoor label’s trail silhouette, the XT-4 Mule houses all the typical components of a Salomon sneaker (Quicklace System, grippy outsole, and a meshy tongue) but with a neat slip-on heel.
Now, it appears the sought-after kicks will arrive in a sleek, all-black iteration. Teased via the Instagram account Hiking Patrol back in 2023, the black colorway has since resurfaced online via Salomonology — suggesting that its release date could be coming soon.
Arriving in a “Black/Black/Silver” colorway, crafted with an all-black upper, silver accents and the signature MM6 logo across the toe, the kicks will reportedly retail for 390 euros, but official release info is still to be confirmed.
Stay tuned for release details of the MM6 X Salomon XT-4 Mule coming soon.
