For eleven days, the 76th Venice Film Festival cured our end-of-summer blues thanks to parade of fabulous gowns A-listers wore on the red carpet. Originally held in 1932, the fashion spectacle is not only of the oldest film festivals, but also the most glamorous.
From Scarlett Johansson’s shimmering red Celine dress to Iman’s breathtaking Valentino confection, the 2019 style extravaganza did not disappoint. Kristin Stewart in particular rocked a stunning long-sleeved metallic fuchsia lace frock from designer Virginie Viard’s Fall/Winter 2019 haute couture collection for Chanel, accessorizing with a dainty choker by Chanel fine jewelry that peeked out from just below the gown’s scalloped neckline. She put her own punk spin on things by slicking her partially grown out blonde bob into a side-swept fringe accented with two side braids that worked perfectly with the style’s fierce undercut. She coordinated with a matching fuchsia smokey eye, holding fast to her title of “queen of dramatic eye makeup.”
Aside from Johansson, Stewart, and the ever fashionable Iman, some of the highlights included Cate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani, Penelope Cruz in Ralph & Russo Couture, Lily-Rose Depp in Chanel Couture, Meryl Streep in Givenchy, Zazie Beetz in Valentino Couture, Sara Sampaio in Giorgio Armani. And it wouldn’t be a glitzy film festival set in a luxurious European location without a number of supermodels dressed to the nines. Models like Bar Refaeli and Candice Swanepoel looked gorgeous in their statement-making ensembles at the star-studded premieres.
