The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class was announced last week! As you already know, Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur and Yes will all be enshrined at Barclays Center in New York this spring. A few of the new members waited decades to get in, while others a short period of time. Today, let’s talk about the most deserving (our opinion) band of the bunch, Journey!
Journey began in the Bay area in 1973, leveraging the talents of lead guitarist Neal Schon, lead vocalist Gregg Rolie, bass player Ross Valory, and drummer George Tickner. With some success the label brought in Robert Fleischman to sing lead, but Robert left due to philosophical differences. Steve Perry joined the band in 1977.
Journey has sold over 120 million records, dominating the charts in the 70s and 80s. During that time, the band had six top 10 albums, including 11 top 10 singles. Did you know that ‘American Idol’ judge Randy Jackson joined the band for a few years in the late 80s? In spite of all their great tunes, Journey has never won a Grammy.
It is uncertain if Steve Perry former lead singer will appear at the induction ceremony.
