The Girl Scout Cookie Program has many stated goals including teaching scouts “leadership, problem-solving, and community building” while also embracing an “understanding of the world of business, money management, and entrepreneurship.” And so while, on its surface, the idea of “selling cookies” may sound quaint, in recent years, the program has gotten incredibly modern, leaning into the same promotional tactics used by major brands, like partnering with Door Dash and Hip Dot.
And now, as Food & Wine reports, the Girl Scouts of the USA have announced their next new cookie, set to join the program’s lineup in 2023, and not only is it a brand extension — a spin on their best-selling Thin Mints cookies — but will also be the Girl Scouts’ first-ever online-exclusive cookie including via Grubhub.
The “Raspberry Rally” is billed as a “sister” cookie to the crispy Thin Mints, described as being “infused with raspberry flavor instead of mint and dipped in the same delicious chocolaty coating.” Indeed, on the outside, the two varieties of cookies look relatively the same; it’s not until you bite into its pink-hued center that Raspberry Rally’s differences become visually apparent.
Additionally, though Girl Scouts have embraced digital ordering for years now — especially in the wake of COVID — Raspberry Rally will be “the first in the Girl Scout Cookie lineup to be exclusively offered for online direct shipment only, enhancing girls’ e-commerce sales and entrepreneurial skills.”
According to Food & Wine, Raspberry Rally follows in the footsteps of last year’s new Adveturefuls cookies, which proved popular enough that they actually became hard to find (though pandemic-related labor shortages also played a role). With Raspberry Rally’s connection to Thin Mints — which, according to the Girl Scouts’ Cookies FAQ page, is their top-selling variety — the Scouts would seem to have another hit on their hands for 2023.
But for now, cookie fans have to play the waiting game. This August announcement is only intended to build excitement for the upcoming cookie season which officially takes place nationally from January to April, though local timing varies. If you want to keep up on all the latest, head over to GirlScoutCookies.org to sign up for notifications and find out when cookies go on sale from your local council.
