The Detroit Lions have seen a lot of David Montgomery over his first four years in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears. Since they are in need of a running back for next season, they are expected to sign Montgomery to a three year deal once the new league starts at 4 pm on March 15th. ESPN reported the deal’s value at $18 million.
The Lions also have D’Andre Swift on the depth chart, who was the league’s leading touchdown scorer last season. However, Jamaal Williams is a free agent, leaving a few spots open in Detroit.
Montgomery has been putting in work in Chicago since he was selected from the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft from Iowa State. Just last season, he managed 801 yards on 201 carries, and five rushing touchdowns through 16 games. He has also displayed his ability to catch the ball, accumulating 1,240 receiving yards and four touchdowns with 155 receptions.
Montgomery has averaged 4.1 yards per carry when playing against the Detroit Lions while on the Chicago Bears.
