On Thursday, April 15th, The Black Keys announced that they will release their 10th studio album Delta Kream on May 14th 2021 via Nonesuch Records.
Delta Kream will include five covers dedicated to late blues legend Junior Kimbrough, who also recorded under Fat Possum Records and served as the inspiration for The Black Keys’ 2006 EP Chulahoma: The Songs of Junior Kimbrough. Their covers of Burnside’s “Busted” and Kimbrough’s “Do The Romp” were featured on their 2006 debut album The Big Come Up.
The Mississippi hill country blues cover album celebrates the Akron, Ohio-based duo’s roots while paying homage to the classics that influenced their career, from R. L. Burnside’s “Poor Boy a Long Way From Home” and “Going Down South” to John Lee Hooker’s “Crawling Kingsnake,” which serves as the the project’s first single.
