Love makes the world go round, and is always the undercurrent in our favorite songs. In the 80s and 80s there were hair bands and experimental groups, but love will always find its way. What were the best ballads of the 80s and 90s?
“In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins was a haunting love song that the TV series Miami Vice brought to fame by its use in one of its more serious episodes.
“I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith, appeared in the Bruce Willis movie ‘Armageddon’ and was the band’s first and only number one song, a great ballad for the times.
“Wonderwall” by Oasis broke the rock mold, as did “Promises in the Dark” by Pat Benatar. After the tragic loss of his young son, Eric Clapton ruled the world with ‘Tears In Heaven.”
“I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do that)” from Meat Loaf was an incredible ballad that used various tempos to make its point; vintage Jim Steinman, piano by Bruce Springsteen’s Ross Bittan, and great vocal addition by Patti Russo.
“Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams reminded us that Canadians can rock; Bryan brought the ladies to the show and doubled ticket sales by virtue of beautiful ballads.
“Is This Love” by Whitesnake is the video that took the MTV audience to new heights and made the girls swoon with David Coverdale’s open shirt
