Athens Georgia is/was the home of James Brown, R.E.M., the Black Crowes, and The Atlanta Rhythm Section. Collective Soul and Shawn Mullins also hail from Atlanta.
Minneapolis brought us the incomparable Prince. Jacksonville gave us 38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, and most of the Allman Brothers. Tom Petty came from Gainesville, the Outlaws from Tampa, and Jim Morrison was born in Clearwater.
Finally, Philadelphia became the home of a reprise of Motown with its ‘Philly Sound’ but gave the world rockers like Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren, Joan Jett and the Hooters.
