The Best Fashion Ad Campaigns of Spring 2020

Fashion houses and Designers are readying the launch of their Spring 2020 collections, which means glossy ad campaign spreads across all the major magazines, sites, and airwaves.  Here are some of the most striking ads that have caught our attention so far….

Louis Vuitton

Virgil Abloh has tapped Viviane Sassen to shoot the Louis Vuitton men’s spring campaign. Lensed in the Moroccan cities of Tangier and Chefchaouen, famous for its blue-washed houses, it is the first in a series of five campaigns intended to portray man’s positive footprint on the planet, the brand said. The subsequent four campaigns for future men’s collections will be captured on every continent, with the choice of photographers yet to be defined, it added. “Honing the travel-centric core of the house, the campaigns illustrate and celebrate the formative acts and feelings shared by male youth around the globe, irrespective of culture and creed,” Vuitton said in a statement. Sassen’s images, featuring a diverse cast comprised of models and talent scouted locally in Morocco, feature the flowers that were the main theme of Abloh’s spring collection. The campaign, art directed by Lina Kutsovskaya and styled by Christine Centenera, broke on Jan. 10 in Japan’s Popeye magazine.

Michael Kors

For spring, the Michael Kors Collection ad campaign was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Shot on the grounds of a Beverly Hills estate, the campaign features models Ugbad Abdi and Rianne Van Rompaey.  “My spring collection is a celebration of the best of American style,” said Michael Kors. “The Collection campaign focuses on a mix of ease and glamour that is inherently American, and the layers of sophistication, irreverence and romance found in the images complement that juxtaposition.” Crisply tailored separates and soft romantic dresses are featured. The global campaign breaks this month, with print ads running in spring issues worldwide. The images will also appear in digital outlets, as well as social media platforms and traditional outdoor media placement.

Yves St. Laurent

“Bohemian Rhapsody” star Rami Malek is the new face of Saint Laurent’s spring 2020 men’s campaign. Shot by David Sims and art directed by Saint Laurent creative director Antony Vaccarello, the images feature the American actor, also known for his role in hit television series “Mr. Robot,” both in black-and-white and in color. In some of the shots, Malek is seen sporting a military jacket not unlike the ones favored by Freddie Mercury for his on-stage appearances, a role that earned Malek the Oscar for Best Actor in 2019.

Dior

Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri has teamed with photographer Brigitte Niedermair for their third advertising campaign, showcasing her nature-themed spring collection inspired by Catherine Dior, the founding couturier’s sister. Models Selena Forrest and Ruth Bell pose against a gray wall embossed with wild flowers, dressed in classics like the Bar suit in a beige-and-black houndstooth check, alongside denim and evening looks in tie-dye prints. Straw bucket hats and new versions of the Lady Dior and Saddle bags also feature prominently in the images. Chiuri said she had found in Niedermair the perfect partner to communicate her design aesthetic. “I really love her,” she said. “She gives me a voice. She translates into pictures my vision of fashion.” The images were styled by Isabelle Kontoure, with hair by Olivier Schawalder and makeup by Peter Philips.
